The Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, helps police departments and county sheriffs statewide by providing key support services at no cost. BCI experts analyze evidence, aid in investigations, and provide Ohio’s criminal history network and background-check services. The agency runs the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway and serves as a repository for all state criminal records.

The Peace Officer Training Commission improves officers’ professional capabilities through the oversight of basic training for peace officers and private-security, corrections and humane agents.

The Organized Crime Investigations Commission oversees task forces that target complex crime operations — drug dealing and human trafficking, for example. The task forces, made up largely of local officers, receive wider jurisdiction and subpoena powers than individual law enforcement agencies, as well as operational help and funding.
