Ideas for Our Future Conference: Help and Hope in Ohio

While the opioid epidemic in Ohio has been devastating, it has brought people together to be creative, passionate, and powerful in the fight against it. There is real help and real hope happening every single day, particularly for kids, who are innocent victims in this drug crisis. They are traumatized when they don’t have food or running water because their parents’ addiction has robbed them of their basic needs. And they are traumatized when they see their parents using drugs, overdosing, and dying.

Human Trafficking

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has made fighting against human trafficking a priority. The Attorney General’s Office supports task forces that rescue victims and hold traffickers accountable, offers law enforcement training and investigation assistance, provides millions of dollars directly to Ohio organizations to help survivors, and houses the Ohio Human Trafficking Commission, which focuses on education. Attorney General DeWine News Conference Announcing New BCI Electronic Detection K-9

This morning, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine will introduce a new Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) special agent who is trained to detect hidden electronic devices with his nose. Reptar, an Electronic Detection K-9, was trained to assist BCI special agents with Attorney General DeWine's Crimes Against Children Unit in locating electronics, such as cell phones, SD cards, and USB storage devices, hidden by suspects in child pornography investigations. Any law enforcement agency in Ohio will be able to request the Labrador Retriever and his BCI handler to assist in investigations including, but not limited to, child pornography cases.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine introduced a unique new crime-fighting tool that is now available to help Ohio law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations. Reptar, a 22-month-old black Labrador Retriever, is the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s new Electronic Detection K-9.

On August 24, 2017, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine will hold a news conference to discuss the strain the opioid epidemic in Ohio has put on the state's child welfare system and to encourage Ohioans to become foster parents.
