Attorney General DeWine Announces $1 Million Settlement with Tobacco Maker

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said today that the state has reached an agreement with Grand River Enterprises Six Nations LTD in which Grand River deposited into a state escrow account $984,185; paid penalties and post-judgment interest of $1,052,000 to the state General Revenue Fund; and paid attorney fees and costs of $82,000 to his office.

Home-Improvement Scammer Receives 18 Months in Prison

A home-improvement scam prosecuted as a criminal offense led to a guilty plea by James Burchett of Amelia, Ohio, who was sentenced today in Hamilton County Court to 18 months in prison.

Attorney General DeWine Requests that U.S. Supreme Court Take Up Health Care Lawsuit

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and colleagues from twenty-five states today filed a petition for a writ of certiorari asking the U.S. Supreme Court to take up the constitutional issues surrounding the Obama heath care reform act.  States in the case of State of Florida et al., v. United States Department of Health and Human Services, et. al are challenging the health care law and its unprecedented claim of federal power to require individuals to go into the marketplace and buy federally-approved health care coverage or face penalties.

BCI Awarded Grant to Develop Sex Offender Notification for Colleges and Universities

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that BCI has been awarded a grant to develop sex offender notification for use by colleges and universities. The $73,500 federal grant was awarded by the United States Department of Justice thought the SMART FY 2011 Support for Adam Walsh Act Implementation Grant Program.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Local Grants Awarded to Area Agencies that Help Crime Victims

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that he has approved the awarding of more than $17.5 million in state and federal grants to victim service agencies throughout the state. These grants are part of the annual awards of the State Victims Assistance Act and the federal Victims of Crime Act, coordinated by the Crime Victim Section of the Attorney General’s Office.
