Businessman Sentenced in Toledo Environmental Records Tampering Case

Greg Kuch, of Findlay, owner and operator of State Tank and Remediation, Inc., was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court today to pay $10,000 in restitution, perform 100 hours of community service and serve four years of community control after being convicted on one count of tampering with records.

Attorney General DeWine Announces $1.4 Million Judgment in Charter School Case

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a judgment has been entered against an insider of a charter school that overbilled the state for more than $1.4 million. The judgment against Hassina Shabazz was entered in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court for the full amount of the overpayment, $1,407,983, plus interest from 2007. Any recovery will go to the Cleveland Metropolitan and other Northeast Ohio school districts.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Guilty Plea in Dayton Pill-Mill Case

Attorney General Mike DeWine announced that Dr. Han M. Yang pleaded guilty today to Trafficking in Prescription Drugs, among other charges. Search warrants were executed last October on Yang's offices in Dayton and Bethel Township as part of an investigation into prescription drug abuse, medical fraud, and money laundering.

Attorney General DeWine Issues Compliance Report on State Awards for Economic Development

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today submitted an annual report to the Ohio General Assembly regarding business entities that were granted economic development awards from the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) with performance periods ending in 2010 detailing the extent those entities complied with the terms and conditions of the awards they received.

Attorney General DeWine and the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission Announce Guilty Pleas in Nation's Largest Mortgage Fraud Case

Attorney General Mike DeWine, the Attorney General's Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission (OOCIC), and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason today announced that five defendants pleaded guilty to mortgage fraud crimes covering more than 500 real estate transactions totaling $50 million, involving $44 million in fraudulent loans, and earning $31 million in profits.

Attorney General Mike DeWine Files Civil RICO Action Against Trustees and Bingo Workers of former Mansfield All Sports Booster Club

 Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that his office filed a civil RICO action in Richland County Common Pleas Court, alleging a number of claims including money laundering, theft, and racketeering against the trustees of the former Mansfield All Sports Booster Club and conspiring bingo workers.  The suit alleges that the defendants’ actions resulted in the theft of charitable assets from at least seven Richland County charities.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Sentencing in Medicaid Kickback Case

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that Ayana Parks, of Columbus, was sentenced on Dec. 16 to five years of community control and ordered to repay $7,500 in restitution to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in a fraud case that involved kickbacks from her to a Medicaid recipient. She would bill for services never performed, then kick back to the Medicaid recipient some of the money received to pay for the phantom services.

Attorney General DeWine Recovers $1.97 Million from Commercial Casualty Insurer

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that The ACE Group, a commercial casualty insurer with operations worldwide, has agreed to pay $1.97 million to settle a lawsuit alleging violations of Ohio's antitrust laws.
