Sweepstakes Affidavits for New Moratorium Due June 27th

Ohio Attorney General DeWine today sent letters to more than 600 internet cafes informing them of the June 27th deadline to file new affidavits under the extended statewide moratorium of new sweepstakes establishments. Senate Bill 115, which established the new registration requirements and extended the moratorium, was signed yesterday by Governor John Kasich.

Attorney General DeWine and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Warn of Mystery Shopper Scam

Scammers are using counterfeit checks that appear to be from The Ohio State University Medical Center, according to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The checks are part of a mystery shopper scam, in which consumers receive a letter stating that they have been selected as a “customer service evaluator” and must evaluate their local money transfer service by wiring hundreds of dollars.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Agreement with Penguin Group to Resolve E-Book Price-Fixing Allegations

Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced the resolution of a multistate antitrust lawsuit against a major U.S. book publisher for price-fixing and collusion in the electronic book (e-book) market. DeWine and 32 other attorneys general have reached an agreement with Penguin Group (USA) Inc. to settle allegations that Penguin colluded with other major publishers and Apple Inc. to manipulate prices in the e-book market.

Attorney General DeWine Seeks Consumer Restitution from Stark County Pole Building Business

Attorney General Mike DeWine today filed a lawsuit charging Durabilt Inc., Allwood Structures Inc., and the businesses’ owner Timothy Swallen with multiple violations of Ohio’s consumer laws. In the lawsuit, the Attorney General seeks consumer restitution, permanent injunctive relief, and civil penalties.

Attorney General DeWine and Richland County Prosecutor Announce Charitable Indictments

Attorney General Mike DeWine and Richland County Prosecutor James J. Mayer Jr. today announced indictments against individuals involved in three separate incidents involving the abuse of charitable resources and fraud. Also contributing to the development of these cases were the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Mansfield Police, Lexington Police, and the local developmental disabilities board.
