Attorney General DeWine Visits Buckeye Boys State

Attorney General DeWine spoke to delegates to Buckeye Boys State on June 12, 2013. Sponsored by the American Legion, Buckeye Boys State is an eight-day hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Ohio government.

Founded in 1936, Buckeye Boys State is the largest Boys State program in the nation with an attendance of 1,200 young men annually. Boys State programs throughout the nation are sponsored by the American Legion, the nation's largest veterans organization.

Attorney General DeWine Releases Recommendations of AG's School Safety Task Force

On Friday Morning, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine will release the recommendations of the Attorney General's School Safety Task Force at a news conference in the Ohio Statehouse. DeWine convened his School Safety Task Force in December to bring together school administrators, emergency first responders, and government officials to review Ohio school safety practices, including safety plan guidelines.

Ohio Attorney General DeWine, Ohio Department of Health Move to Close Zanesville Nursing Home

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Theodore Wymyslo, M.D., announced that they are working to close a nursing home in Zanesville. The move to revoke Autumn Healthcare of Zanesville's license comes after a covert investigation by the Attorney General's Office found evidence of suspected patient neglect. Multiple ODH inspections also revealed ongoing patterns of substandard care at the 100-bed facility.

Autumn Healthcare of Zanesville's license will be terminated in 60 days.

In February, 2012, Attorney General DeWine announced a Demolition Grant Program which will contribute $75 million in grants across Ohio. Attorney General DeWine's demolition program helps stabilize and improve communities by removing blighted and abandoned homes with funds from the national mortgage settlement reached in 2012.

Illegal Casinos Raided in Medina County

On June 4, 2013, agents with the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted local law enforcement in serving search warrants at the following locations:

  • Cyber City, 2696 Medina Road, Medina, Ohio
  • Cyber 777's, 1733 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio
Investigators removed dozens of cash-operated slot machines from both locations.

Attorney General DeWine Issues Warning on Synthetic Drugs

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine Mett with members of the Ohio Pharmacy Board on June 3, 2013, during their monthly meeting to discuss newly created synthetic drugs. Despite the success of House Bill 334 in 2012, illicit chemists continue to create new synthetic drugs that are not covered by current law. Attorney General DeWine and the Pharmacy Board discussed methods to quickly ban such drugs as they develop.
