BCI Lab Opens on BGSU Campus

On November 10, 2014, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Bowling Green State University President Mary Ellen Mazey officially opened the new Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation crime lab located on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The nearly 30,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will be the home to over 40 BCI staff performing investigative and laboratory services. Laboratory services include: Chemistry; Evidence receiving; Firearms and toolmark examination; Forensic biology; Latent print analysis and Trace evidence analysis. Investigative services include: Crime Scene Unit; Crimes Against Children Unit; Criminal Intelligence Unit; Narcotics Unit; Special Investigations Unit and Criminal polygraph examination.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, along with other law enforcement leaders, announced a new model for Ohio’s Child Abduction Response Team (CART). CART can be called in the event there is a missing child in Ohio who law enforcement determines is in immediate danger. CART teams have existed throughout Ohio since 2006.

Attorney General DeWine and Ohio Law Enforcement Announce New “Child Abduction Response Team” Model

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, along with other law enforcement leaders, will announce a new model for Ohio’s Child Abduction Response Team (CART). CART can be called in the event there is a missing child in Ohio who law enforcement determines is in immediate danger. CART teams have existed throughout Ohio since 2006.

A CART Steering Committee, with representatives of the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association, and the Ohio Highway Patrol, met for 21 months to determine a new model for CART. Law enforcement agencies from across the state will be invited to attend ten Attorney General’s Office CART trainings in the next few months explaining the new model.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, State Senator Shannon Jones (R-Springboro), and State Representative Dorothy Pelanda (R-Marysville) will hold a news conference to unveil legislation that will create a Ward's Bill of Rights and introduce a new guidebook on guardianship created by the Ohio Attorney General's Office.

Naloxone is a drug that reverses the effects of opioids on the brain and can limit or stop an overdose when given to an individual overdosing on heroin or a prescription opioid. House Bill 170 gives friends, family members, and others who may be in the position to assist someone suffering from an opioid overdose the ability to administer naloxone as long as they receive the drug from a licensed heath professional. This video, produced by the Ohio Attorney General's Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA), is an educational video regarding the administration of naloxone. An eOPOTA naloxone training video for law enforcement is accessible to officers via the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG).

Attorney General DeWine, Buckeye State Sheriffs' Association to Unveil New eSORN Feature

On July 3rd, 2014, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and the Buckeye State Sheriffs's Association unveiled a new feature added to the Electronic Sex Offender Registration and Notification (eSORN) Database which will assist in protecting Ohio families. The new feature will give parents increased ability to determine if a registered sex offender has been communicating with their children.
