Ohio Attorney General's Advisory Group on Law Enforcement Training

In December 2014, Ohio Attorney General Mike Dewine appointed an Advisory Group on Law Enforcement Training made up of 16 members from across the state with diverse personal and professional backgrounds. The Advisory Group was charged with examining how Ohio trains its law enforcement officers and with making suggestions for improvement.

The Advisory Group was led by Dr. Reginald A. Wilkinson, the former director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Three subcommittees were also formed for in-depth study. These subcommittees include the Mental Health Subcommittee, the Use of Force Subcommittee, and the Community Relations Subcommittee.

This press conference explains the findings of the Advisory Group.

Reintroduction of the Violent Career Criminal Act

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine joins State Senator Jim Hughes (R-Columbus) and Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien to discuss their support for the Violent Career Criminal Act, introduced earlier this General Assembly as Senate Bill 97. The legislation, sponsored by Senators Hughes and Frank LaRose (R-Copley), would add additional jail time for repeat violent offenders, the group which a study concluded committed the majority of violent crimes in Ohio.

Attorney General DeWine Announces $150,000 Grant for Lucas County Drug Abuse Response Team

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announces that he is awarding the Lucas County Sheriff's Office with a $150,000 grant to expand its Drug Abuse Response Team (D.A.R.T.). The grant funding, which comes from lawsuit settlement funds, will be used to increase the number of full-time D.A.R.T. deputies from five to seven in an effort to enable them to help more people struggling with addiction.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office and the Ohio Council on Economic Education thank everyone who participated in the 2014 Take Action Video Contest. Students demonstrated that they learned about consumer scams, cybersecurity, identity theft, and how to protect themselves.
