Attorney General DeWine Wins Reinstatement of Toledo Killer’s Murder Conviction

The U.S. Supreme Court has reinstated the murder conviction for Archie Dixon, a Toledo-area killer.  The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit had set aside conviction, ruling that police had violated Miranda v. Arizona when they obtained a murder confession from Dixon.

Attorney General DeWine Supports Expansion of Driving Angels Driving Program in Hamilton County

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today attended an event in Sycamore Township (Hamilton County) announcing that the Driving Angels program, which has been offered in Western Hamilton County since 2009, will now be offered in Eastern Hamilton County as well.

Ohioans Turned in More Than Nine Tons of Prescription Drugs on Drug Take Back Day

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that Ohioans turned in more than 9 tons of prescription drugs during this past weekend’s Drug Take Back Day events. The 18,672 total pounds turned in was over 4,000 pounds greater that the amount turned in during the fall 2010 Drug Take Back Day.

Attorney General DeWine Upholds Ohio Law on Brine Disposal

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has determined that certain permits governing treatment and disposal of brine from oil and gas wells, issued in Trumbull County by the former Director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, were not issued legally.

Attorney General DeWine Accepts Award from Columbus Urban League

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today accepted a 2011 Equal Opportunity Day Award from the Columbus Urban League. The award recognized the Attorney General's Office for 17 years of ongoing support for the Minority Crime Victim Assistance Program (MCVAP).

Akron Dry Cleaning Business to Pay Penalty for Violating Ohio's Environmental Laws

In a settlement with Ohio EPA and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, the owner of Belle-Aire Cleaners in Akron agreed to pay a $10,000 penalty for violating Ohio's air pollution control laws at a dry cleaning business located at 649 Storer Avenue.

State Files for Temporary Shutdown of Columbus Refinery for Air Pollution Violations

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today filed charges in court seeking the temporary shutdown of a Columbus petroleum product refinery for ongoing air pollution violations that have caused substantial odor nuisances. On behalf of Ohio EPA, DeWine filed Written Charges of Contempt against Heartland Petroleum in Franklin County Environmental Court for violating previous orders which prohibit the company from releasing uncontrolled emissions and causing a public odor nuisance.

Attorney General DeWine Outraged over Children's Deaths in Ohio

At a press conference in Cincinnati on Oct. 27, Attorney General Mike DeWine, outraged at the recent death of two-year old DeMarcus Jackson, warned that any time decisions are made about putting a child back in his home, the safety of that child must always be the number one priority.  An advocate for children his entire career, DeWine cautioned everyone to follow the law, which makes clear that in issues of family reunification, the safety of the child comes first.  It was a law DeWine wrote when he was in the U.S. Senate in 1997.

Attorney General DeWine Files U.S. Supreme Court Amicus Brief Defending the Use of Scientific Experts

Today, 41 States, the District of Columbia, and Guam joined Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine in filing an amicus brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to confirm that scientific experts can testify at criminal trials about DNA data.

Attorney General DeWine, Five States Request U.S. Supreme Court Grant Review in Asian Carp Lawsuit

Five states including Ohio today requested that the United States Supreme Court grant review of a district court’s denial of their motion for a preliminary injunction in the states’ invasive species lawsuit. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and four other attorneys general filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari requesting the Court “grant review and reverse to abate an imminent threat to one of the most precious freshwater ecosystems in the world.”
