Attorney General DeWine Announces Winners of High School Consumer Video Contest

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced the winners of the 2014 Take Action Video Contest, which encouraged Ohio high school students to submit a 60-second video about consumer protection.

In the 2014 contest, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office received 214 videos from more than 360 students representing 52 schools.

The top three winning individuals or teams were:

“We congratulate the winners of this contest, and we thank the hundreds of Ohio high school students who participated,” Attorney General DeWine said. “Consumer protection is an important topic for people of all ages, and these videos relayed helpful consumer messages in creative ways.”

Students were asked to submit videos on identity theft, cybersecurity, online marketplace scams, or imposter scams. The first, second, and third place individuals or teams will receive college scholarships of $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000, respectively.

Attorney General DeWine also recognized the following finalists in the 2014 contest:

  • Emma Woodruff (Bluffton High School)
  • Cassandra Yee (Mentor High School)
  • Gabriella Tagliaferri, Andrew Majesky, and Paul Smalcer (North Ridgeville High School) 
  • Sydney Ellerbrock and Sophia Fisher (Upper Arlington High School)
  • Claire Moody (Upper Arlington High School)
  • Grace Miller (Upper Sandusky High School)
  • Zak Jaeb and Hannah Reiheld (West Holmes High School)

Today's announcement coincides with National Consumer Protection Week, the first full week of March, when organizations across the country promote consumer education.
