Group and individual VR training is available — the choice is up to an agency or an individual peace officer. After passing the course, a peace officer will be eligible to sign out equipment or, if an agency has VR goggles, OPOTA will upload VR videos to those headsets at no cost.
Are you an agency looking for group training?
All training must be conducted by an OPOTA-certified instructor. Currently, there are more than 200 certified instructors statewide. Agencies that do not have VR equipment can choose among the following options:
- Establish an in-house instructor (see Becoming an Instructor).
- Bring in an outside instructor to train your staff.
- Conduct staff training at a neighboring agency that has a certified instructor.
- Send your staff to OPOTA’s main campus or a regional training center.
Are you an individual peace officer looking for training?
- Sign in to your OPOTA Portal account.
- Go to the Course Catalog.
- Search for “VR courses”.
- Register for a VR course at OPOTA or an OPOTA Close to Home regional provider.
