Attorney General DeWine Announces Raid of Suspected 'Pill Mill'

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that state, local, and federal officials served a search warrant on a suspected "pill mill" in Ironton. Today's search warrant comes one day after Attorney General DeWine joined 47 other state and territorial attorneys general to urge the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to adopt standards requiring manufacturers and marketers of generic prescription painkillers to develop tamper-and abuse-resistant versions of their products.

Attorney General DeWine Joins $7 Million Multistate Settlement With Google

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today joined 37 states and the District of Columbia in a $7 million settlement with Google over its collection of data from unsecured wireless networks nationwide while taking photographs for its Street View service between 2008 and March 2010. Ohio is expected to receive $162,000.

"Each day it becomes increasingly important that we do what we can to safeguard our personal information," said Attorney General DeWine. "While we all must do what we can to safeguard our own personal information, this settlement recognizes the privacy rights of individuals and serves as a reminder that this information cannot be collected without a person's permission."

Attorney General DeWine, U.S. Attorney Stewart Announce Fifth Damal Home Care Conviction

This morning a U.S. District Court judge sentenced Damal's co-owner, Yasin Warsame, of Westerville, to 90 days incarceration followed by three years of probation. The 45-year-old previously pleaded guilty to one count of Health Care Fraud.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has released his office’s 2013 edition of “Ohio Sunshine Laws: An Open Government Resource Manual,” also known as the “Yellow Book.” The release of the updated manual coincides with the start of National Sunshine Week, taking place from March 10-16.

Man Accused of Using Deceased Mother's Information to Steal $100,000 from Ohio Public Employees Retirement System

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine joined Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien and Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) General Counsel Julie Emch Becker today to announce the indictment of a man accused of stealing more than $100,000 from OPERS.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Consent Order Signed to Resolve Lorain Landfill Issues

(CLEVELAND) – Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that a consent order has been signed with Lorain County Landfill (LCLF) and Bio Energy to eliminate off-site odors from the landfill and the payment of $500,000 by LCLF and $50,000 by Bio Energy in civil penalties.

"The signing of this consent order will result in an improvement of operations at the landfill and hopefully eliminate any future odor issues," said Attorney General DeWine. "It's vital that sites such as these function in line with requirements to protect citizens and the environment."

Attorney General DeWine Warns Ohioans of Imposter Scams as National Consumer Protection Week Begins

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Attorney General Mike DeWine today kicked off National Consumer Protection Week in Ohio with a warning about scammers posing as employees of his office to trick consumers into providing personal information and payment for bogus debts. From Jan. 1-Feb. 20, of this year, the Attorney General's Office has received about a dozen reports of scammers pretending to be from the Attorney General's Office and/or the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

"Consumers are reporting phony debt collection calls from alleged BCI agents or other law enforcement officials within the Attorney General's Office," said DeWine. "My office works hard to protect Ohioans from fraud, and we want to make sure Ohioans know that these calls are outright scams. No one from my office will threaten you demanding you pay a debt."

Wanted Sex Offender: Scott Lyons

Deputies with the Morrow County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for the arrest of Scott Lyons in January.  He is wanted on a charge of failure to register.

Attorney General and Miami County Prosecutor Announce Ringleader Guilty Plea in Telemarketing Fraud Scheme

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Miami County Prosecutor Gary Nasal today announced that Theodore Thomas, the accused ringleader of a telemarketing fraud ring from Ohio and Florida that stole millions of dollars from thousands of victims in 41 states since 2007, has pleaded guilty.
 
Thomas, previously of Huber Heights, Ohio, pleaded guilty today to a first-degree felony for engaging in a pattern of corrupt activities. He faces a maximum prison sentence of 11 years.
