On January 21, 2014, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine held a Drug Abuse Community Forum in Akron. DeWine announced the Ohio Attorney General's Drug Abuse Community Forum series during the first community meeting in Portsmouth last year. Each meeting will give community members the opportunity to discuss drug abuse concerns with Attorney General DeWine and a panel of local experts. The Attorney General also hosted a meeting in Toledo and Mansfield.

Attorney General DeWine Testifies on Asian Carp Threat to Lake Erie

On January 16th, 2014, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine testified during a public meeting in Cleveland on the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study and the effect of Asian carp and other invasive species. The meeting is hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which conducted the study. Attorney General DeWine has been a strong advocate for Lake Erie and is seeking expedited action by the Corps as part of a pending lawsuit.

On January 14, 2014, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine joined Lima community leaders to announce the expansion of the Attorney General's Safe Neighborhoods Initiative to Lima. The goal of the initiative, which operates in partnership with local officials, is to target offenders with a history of gun violence and work with those offenders to prevent future violent crime. The program is currently underway in Akron, Steubenville, and Warren.

Twenty-Two Face Heroin Charges in Circleville, Pickaway County Drug Investigations

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Circleville Police Chief Harold W. Gray, Pickaway County Sheriff Robert Radcliff, Pickaway County Prosecutor Judy Wolford, and Circleville Mayor Don McIlroy announced on Dember 18, 2013 that 22 people are facing heroin trafficking charges as a result of ongoing drug investigations by the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), Circleville Police Department, and Pickaway County Sheriff's Office.

News Conference on Bobby Thompson Sentencing

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine will hold a media availability in Columbus this morning and in Cleveland this afternoon following the sentencing of John Donald Cody, also known as "Bobby Thompson." The Ohio Attorney General's Office spent years investigating Cody, who is believed to have collected more than $2 million of Ohioans' money and tens of millions from residents in 40 other states who thought they were donating to military veterans via Cody's fraudulent U.S. Navy Veterans Association. Cody was convicted on Nov. 14, 2013, on 23 charges.

Attorney General DeWine Helps Open FDR Boys & Girls Club in Cleveland

Attorney General Mike DeWine visited the new FDR Elementary Boys & Girls Club to officially launch Cleveland's first full service Boys & Girls Club based in a school. Attorney General DeWine dedicated $4.35 million in funding to the Ohio Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs from the national mortgage settlement to help neighborhoods and families recover from the foreclosure crisis. The Glenville neighborhood has been significantly affected by mortgage foreclosure, with more than 1,000 foreclosure filings since 2008.

On November 18, 2013, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced a new effort aimed at combating the growing epidemic of heroin overdoses, addiction, and trafficking in the state. Attorney General DeWine shared data gathered by his office that shows a continuing increase in heroin overdose deaths.
