A new link on the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy webpage provides information on courses that meet the 2014 Continuing Professional Training (CPT) requirement related to crimes against families.
Ohio peace officers and troopers are required to complete four CPT hours this year, including one hour of training related to crimes against families. The other three hours can be on general law enforcement topics. Three officer wellness courses on career survival have been added to eOPOTA to assist in fulfilling these requirements. If agencies wish to provide these offerings through in-service training, a lesson plan for the courses is available on OHLEG under the OPOTC curriculum heading.
Crimes against families courses can be found at www.OhioAttorney General.gov/OPOTACourses. Five eOPOTA courses also meet the requirement: De-escalating Mental Health Crises; Response to People with Autism; Financial Exploitation of Seniors; Finding Words; and Fraud Against Seniors.
OPOTA is also developing a Crimes Against Children eOPOTA course as well as a lesson plan that agencies can use for in-service training to meet the CPT requirement.
