Attorney General DeWine Seeks Restitution for Consumers in Lawsuit Against Home Builder

(MEDINA, Ohio) - Attorney General Mike DeWine filed a lawsuit today against Unmistakably Premier Homes, and its owner/operator Stephen M. Kovack, for unresolved warranty issues and failure to deliver. The suit seeks restitution for consumers, injunctive relief, and penalties from the Wadsworth-based company.

"For many of us, one of our biggest dreams is to own a home," said Attorney General DeWine. "It's a shame when others take advantage of that goal and turn buying a home into a nightmare."

Attorney General DeWine Says Monitor's Report Shows Ohioans Have Begun to Take Advantage of National Mortgage Settlement

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced that today's release of a monitor's report shows that Ohioans have begun to take advantage of the consumer relief offered by the National Mortgage Settlement announced in March. According to the report, more than 4,500 Ohioans have received more than $165 million in consumer relief.

Stephen Bush, 63, of Gallipolis is currently in the Gallia County Jail.  He was arrested on one charge of rape.

Attorney General DeWine and 37 Attorneys General Reach $90 Million Settlement with GlaxoSmithKline

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that he and 37 other Attorneys General reached a $90 million settlement with GlaxoSmithKline LLC to resolve allegations that GlaxoSmithKline unlawfully promoted its diabetes drug, Avandia®. Ohio is expected to receive $3 million.

The Attorneys General allege that GlaxoSmithKline engaged in unfair and deceptive practices by misrepresenting to physicians and prescribers Avandia's cardiovascular risks and safety profile.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Action Against Utah Businesses in Business Opportunity Sweep

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a lawsuit against three Utah-based companies that sold an online work-from-home program to Ohio consumers. The lawsuit charges the companies with violating state and federal law. The action is part of a nationwide enforcement sweep led by the Federal Trade Commission.
 
"In joining with the FTC and other states in these actions we can help protect against these scams and alert citizens to this issue," said Attorney General DeWine. "Consumers need to be very careful before entering into a business opportunity plan. In this case, the businesses were marketing to Ohio consumers but they weren't following Ohio law."

DeWine, 45 Attorneys General Urge Congress to Reenact Federal Human Trafficking Law

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today joined Attorneys General from 41 States and 4 Territories in urging Congress to pass the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) by the end of the year. The request was made in a letter sent to House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and other the leaders of the House and Senate.
