Three Charged in Connection with Sexual Assault Investigation

(RIO GRANDE, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Rio Grande Police Chief Chris Dodson, and Gallia County Prosecutor Jeff Adkins announced today that three Gallia County men have been indicted on a combined total of 30 felony charges related to the sexual assault of two juvenile females.

The charges follow a joint investigation by the Attorney General's Crimes Against Children Unit and the Rio Grande Police Department.

The following suspects were arrested on Thursday:

Michael Umbel, 41, Rio Grande:

  • Unlawful sexual conduct with a minor or corruption of a minor, 11 counts
  • Sexual battery, 2 counts

Dustin Jones, 32, Bidwell:

  • Unlawful sexual conduct with a minor or corruption of a minor, 12 counts
  • Sexual battery, 2 counts

Nicholas Martin, 27, Rio Grande:

  • Unlawful sexual conduct with a minor or corruption of a minor, 2 counts
  • Sexual battery, 1 count

The three suspects are accused of sexually assaulting the juveniles on multiple occasions over a period of several days in June.

The case is being prosecuted by the Gallia County Prosecutor's Office.

The defendants are currently in custody at the Gallia County Jail.
