(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today honored more than 100 law enforcement officers, dispatchers, prosecutors, and clerks for their outstanding efforts to protect Ohioans and save lives.
The awards were presented during the second and final day of the Attorney General's Law Enforcement Conference in Columbus.
Of the awards, 72 went to those who took part in the first response and investigation of the shooting at Chardon High School earlier this year, and 22 awards went to those who responded to the call of wild animals let loose on a Muskingum County farm in October 2011.
"Many of the men and women we honored today are people who put their own lives at risk in order to save the lives of complete strangers," said Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. "These people are heroes; not only for the extraordinary efforts we are recognizing today, but also for the work they do on a regular basis to keep Ohioans safe."
Attorney General DeWine also recognized the longest-serving sheriff in America, Pickaway County Sheriff Dwight Radcliff, with a lifetime achievement award. Radcliff, who is retiring in January, was elected sheriff for the first time in 1964.
