(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced that he is extending the deadline for the Ohio Attorney General’s Moving Ohio Forward demolition grant program. The deadline to complete demolitions to receive funding was May 31, 2014 and will now be extended to September 30, 2014.
“By extending the date, counties will have the summer months to get their demolitions completed,” said Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. “This extension will allow each county to use a combination of Phase One and Phase Two funds to complete additional demolitions.”
At the end of September 30, 2014, any remaining demolition funds not reimbursed will be redistributed for a third phase of the demolition program. A priority for redistribution of these funds will be made to those counties who completed their demolition program by the original May 31, 2014 deadline.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Moving Ohio Forward program was created to help Ohio’s communities tear down dilapidated and abandoned homes across the state. The funds come from Ohio’s share of the national mortgage settlement reached with the country’s five largest mortgage servicers over foreclosure abuses, fraud and unacceptable mortgage practices. Attorney General DeWine directed $75 million for demolition.
September 30, 2014 is also the deadline for Phase Two of the program. The second phase was created from funds not under contract by December 31, 2013 of the original $75 million allocation and reallocated to all 88 counties.
To date, the program has demolished approximately 10,467 structures.
