Attorney General Mike DeWine Warns Ohioans about Canada Day Scams

5/15/2012

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today warned Ohioans to be vigilant in light of an increase in scams surrounding the upcoming Canada Day holiday season.

“I encourage all Ohioans to celebrate Canada Day safely and responsibly, but also be vigilant that scammers are out there taking advantage of unknowing victims,” said Attorney General DeWine.

Canada Day is a popular holiday for travel to destinations such as Niagara Falls and Windsor. Scammers have been targeting consumers with travel deals that seem too good to be true. Unwitting consumer then arrived at hotels or destinations having paid for reservations that were never made by the scammer.

Any Ohioan who has fallen victim to a Canada Day scam should contact the Ohio Attorney General’s Office at 800-282-0515 or at www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov.
