Lawsuit Seeks Reimbursement from Columbus Used Car Seller Accused of Failing to Deliver Vehicle Titles

2/18/2016

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a lawsuit against a Columbus used car seller accused of failing to deliver motor vehicle titles to consumers.

The lawsuit accuses Ne-Plus-Ultra LLC, doing business as First Look Auto Group, and its owner Gordon C. Newlin of violating Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act and Certificate of Motor Vehicle Title Act by failing to apply for and obtain certificates of title for customers as required by law.

According to the Attorney General’s lawsuit, First Look Auto Group last operated at 2100 Courtright Road in Columbus. Consumers filed 14 complaints with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, and more than $19,000 was paid from the Title Defect Rescission Fund to help resolve title complaints.

In the lawsuit, the Attorney General seeks reimbursement to the Title Defect Rescission Fund, reimbursement for affected consumers, injunctive relief to prevent further violations of Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act and Certificate of Motor Vehicle Title Act, and civil penalties.

“Title problems are a significant source of consumer complaints because of cases like this,” Attorney General DeWine said. “We encourage consumers to check out a seller carefully before buying a car, and to report problems to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.”

Consumers who have title problems after purchasing a motor vehicle or who have other consumer complaints should contact the Ohio Attorney General’s Office at 800-282-0515 or www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov.
