The Narcotics Unit works with local law enforcement to combat illicit drug activity ranging from street-level drug trafficking to complex, multi-jurisdictional trafficking organizations. Agents can bring the latest technological tools to an investigation, including photo and video equipment, pen registers to track phone and internet activity, thermal imagery, body wires, vehicle-tracking devices and ground sensors.
Unit agents who focus on clandestine drug labs and marijuana eradication are certified HAZMAT technicians with expertise in investigating and dismantling clandestine drug labs. Examples include methamphetamine, DMT (Dimethyltryptamine), THC extraction, indoor/outdoor marijuana grows, MDMA (ecstasy), fentanyl, LSD, psilocybin mushrooms and more. Outdoors, these agents most often deal with marijuana eradication, a program funded by the federal government.
Drug lab agents might respond to scenes with breathing apparatuses, personal protective equipment, portable decontamination equipment, sampling gear, generators and other tools that help in assessing, processing and dismantling labs.
