Genetic study

To help ward off opioid addiction before it ever begins, members of SCOPE are undertaking a study to identify genetic factors that make an individual more prone to becoming dependent on opioids. This type of science is part of a relatively new field called pharmacogenomics, which explores how people’s genetic differences cause them to respond to the same drug in different ways. The field also puts a priority on developing treatments to compensate for these differences.

The SCOPE research team discussed the study and its first enrollment milestone in October 2020: here.
