Details

On July 23, 1997, the Fostoria Police Department was advised by a male subject that he had witnessed a shooting on Switzer Road north of Fostoria. The Wood County Sheriff's Office responded and found the body of 32 year old Calvin Strong lying in the front seat of his vehicle having been shot to death. The male subject who witnessed the shooting stated he was in Strong's car with Strong and drove to rural Switzer Road to meet other subjects in another vehicle to complete a drug transaction. The other vehicle parked behind them on Switzer Road and a subject approached Strong's vehicle and the transaction took place through the open front passenger side window. At that time, the subject who approached Strong's vehicle produced a gun and shot through the open passenger side window targeting the driver (Strong), hitting him repeatedly in the head, neck, shoulder and back. The shooter did not target the passenger, leaving him unhurt. The assailant then returned to his car, turning the car around on the gravel roadway and driving west away from the scene. Both vehicles had been facing east at the time of the shooting. Tire tracks in the gravel confirm the presence of a second vehicle.
