On October 25, 1984, Mary Miller contacted Perrysburg Township Police after she found her daughter, Marcy on the floor behind the counter at the family hotel. Marcy had been shot during a robbery of the hotel. Miller was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Investigators from Perrysburg Township and Ohio BCI processed the scene and recovered evidence related to the robbery and homicide. Investigators followed leads obtained during the investigation, but none of those leads resulted in identifying the suspects involved in the case.
