Details

On 03/21/2015 at approximately 2316 hours, officers were dispatched for a person shot outside of "Good Brotha's" Bar (6700 Savannah Avenue). Upon arrival, patrons advised the person shot was approximately half-a-block further south down the street. The victim, Derek Jones, was located lying on the sidewalk on Savannah Avenue near "H" Alley. Jones was unresponsive, not breathing and bleeding profusely from the back of the head. Life saving efforts were started and Jones was transported to University Hopsital where he succumbed to his injuries. Jones had been shot multiple times. Jones, along with some friends had just arrived at the bar when about 2-3 minutes later, Jones asked the driver of the car he had arrived in for his keys so he could retrieve his cell phone that he had left in the car. A surveillance camera captured Jones exiting the bar and walking south down the street to the car. Jones passes another subject (possibly a male/black) walking north. As Jones passed the subject, it appears some words were briefly exchanged and the unknown subject turns around and begins walking after the victim. Witnesses say within approximately one minute later, several shots are heard in the area where Jones was later found.
