Columbus Man Sentenced for Running Veterans Charity Scam

Attorney General Mike DeWine and Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien today announced that John W. Hargrove has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for soliciting money for a fraudulent charity, Ohio Veterans Source (Ohio Vets), which he falsely claimed would aid local veterans. Hargrove has been ordered to pay more than $2,000 in restitution and has no chance for early release.

Ohioans Report Losing Money to Rental Scams, Attorney General DeWine Warns

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today warned that consumers across the state are reporting losing money to rental property scams. The Attorney General’s Office has received more than a dozen reports of the scam since January, and consumers who fall for the scam report an average loss of about $1,000.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a lawsuit against Pro Audio Video, Inc. and its owner Michael E. White, both of Canton. According to the lawsuit, the online business took consumers’ money but failed to deliver the products they ordered. Hundreds of consumers nationwide may have been affected.

Attorney General DeWine Charges Cleveland Talent Agency Owner with Consumer Law Violations

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a lawsuit against The Event in Orlando Inc. (“The Event”) and its owner Andrew Andrekopoulos of Cleveland. According to the lawsuit, the business sold talent-contest packages to consumers whose children wanted to be “discovered” but misrepresented its services and failed to give consumers proper notice of their cancellation rights.
