Join us to open the new BCI facility at Bowling Green
9/29/2014
The new Bureau of Criminal Investigation facility in Northwest Ohio will open Nov. 10 on the Bowling Green State University campus.
Among other features, it will include:
• Modern labs outfitted with state-of-the-art technology, including two hydrogen generators for operating chemistry equipment
• A covered evidence-receiving area that offers greater convenience for those delivering items for analysis
• A 46-foot firing range where glass-front observation areas allow viewing from behind and next to the shooter
The 30,000-square-foot facility is more than a third larger than the current 19,000-square-foot facility and will be LEED-certified for energy efficiency. The project cost — to construct and outfit the facility for lab and investigative services — is $14 million.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Center for the Future of Forensic Science is another aspect of the partnership with BGSU. The center, which will be housed in the university’s Life Science Building, will foster innovative forensic research and create training opportunities for professionals and students in forensic science fields.
Dr. Jon E. Sprague will serve as the center’s director. Sprague most recently served as the university director of academic research and head of pharmaceutical sciences for Ferris State University’s College of Pharmacy. Before that, he was dean and professor of pharmacology at the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University.
“We are excited that our partnership between BCI and Bowling Green State University will come to life through the teaching and research of the center and that the Ohio law enforcement community will be able to tap into the expertise of Dr. Sprague and the center to help solve crimes,” Attorney General DeWine said.
