New Publications Offer Guidance on Ohio’s Fair Employment, Fair Housing Laws

1/12/2016
The Ohio Attorney General’s Civil Rights Section has produced two new publications to help employers and landlords navigate Ohio’s fair employment and fair housing laws.

The “Fair Employment Guide for Business Owners” offers best practices for interviewing potential applicants, crafting an anti-harassment policy, addressing discrimination or harassment complaints, responding to requests for accommodations due to disability or religion, and avoiding lawsuits.

Similarly, the “Fair Housing Guide for Landlords” provides tips on how to advertise and rent property while avoiding potential problems. For example, the guide offers suggestions for screening potential applicants without steering, addressing tenants’ requests for accommodations, and recognizing an animal assistant.

Both publications are available on the Ohio Attorney General’s website free of charge.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Civil Rights Section also conducts free presentations on fair housing and fair employment issues. Currently, the section is planning trainings in Cleveland on March 15 and in Toledo on March 31. To learn more or to request a presentation, contact the Ohio Attorney General’s Civil Rights Section at 614-466-7900.
