(MARION, Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that a jury has found a former law enforcement officer guilty of raping a five-year-old while he was babysitting.
The jury found Randy Spencer, 28, guilty of four counts of rape.
The crimes happened between June 2012 and April 2013 while Spencer was babysitting the child in Marion County. At the time, Spencer was employed as a corrections officer in Delaware County and an auxiliary officer in Marion County. He also previously worked as Marion County sheriff’s deputy.
"We are pleased that the jury reached the verdict of guilty today," said Attorney General DeWine. "The facts in the case were strong enough to prove to the jury beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed these heinous crimes against this innocent victim."
The case was investigated and prosecuted by attorneys with Attorney General DeWine's Special Prosecutions Section and Crimes Against Children Unit.
Spencer will be sentenced in the Marion County Court of Common Pleas next Friday.
He faces a minimum sentence of 15-years-to-life in prison.
