(AKRON, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is thanking the public today for helping authorities locate a convicted sex offender who failed to register his correct address.
According to authorities with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Tyonne Hosey, 29, was taken into custody in Akron around ten o’clock Tuesday night. He was wanted for failing to provide a change of address.
“A convicted sex offender will only get in more trouble by not registering a correct address,” said Attorney General DeWine. “In these cases it is only a matter of time before law enforcement catches up and brings them back to jail.”
As part of his Crimes Against Children Initiative, Attorney General DeWine issued a plea to the public Tuesday morning to help authorities find Hosey. The initiative publicizes convicted sex offenders who have victimized juveniles and are wanted on outstanding warrants. Hosey was deemed a sexually oriented offender after he was convicted of raping a juvenile female.
Summit County investigators issued a warrant for his arrest in July after he allegedly registered an incorrect address with authorities. Detectives said they realized Hosey provided a false address when they visited the home to verify his living arrangements.
Detectives said they received multiple tips about Hosey’s whereabouts after Cleveland and Akron media outlets reported the information. Authorities with the U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force then made the arrest.
“We appreciate the help of the Attorney General’s Office,” said Summit County Detective John Rood. “We are also very thankful to the public who we use as our eyes and ears. We appreciate all their vigilance in keeping us posted about those who violate the state sex offender registry laws.”
Hosey is currently in the Summit County Jail on charges of failure to provide a change of address and tampering with records.
