(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Salon professionals throughout Ohio are being trained to help prevent domestic violence and assist victims through the free “Cut It Out” training offered by the Crime Victim Section of the office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and the Ohio Board of Cosmetology.
“By offering this training, we can reach possible victims at a place where people are comfortable communicating with a trusted professional,” said Attorney General DeWine. “When salon professionals can help recognize the signs of domestic violence and know where to refer clients, more victims can get the help they need.”
Cut It Out teaches salon professionals, students, and others to recognize signs of domestic violence, which can range from physical to economic, and to safely refer possible victims to assistance. The program began in Alabama and, through the Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund and agencies such as the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and Board of Cosmetology, it became a national program.
During October, in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Regency Beauty Institute has arranged for its students to receive Cut It Out training sessions at two institute locations on Oct. 25 in North Canton and Springdale, and on Oct. 26 in North Canton and North Olmsted. To date, more than 1,000 people in Ohio have taken the training.
