(AKRON, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a consumer protection lawsuit against an Akron-area man accused of failing to provide promised home improvement services to consumers.
According to the lawsuit, Neil Wolfe of Twinsburg and his company, Neil Construction Company, offered major home improvement services to consumers but performed shoddy or incomplete work after taking their money.
“We’re committed to protecting consumers, and when we find a pattern of problems, we do what we can to help people,” Attorney General DeWine said. “In this case, we’re seeking a court order to stop the bad actions and to require the defendant to pay back affected consumers.”
Nine northeast Ohio consumers who filed complaints about Wolfe’s company have reported paying a total of over $138,000 for services such as roof repairs, additions, and remodeling. Consumers complained that the contracts were overly long, that deadlines were missed, that work was shoddy, or that refunds were not provided.
The Attorney General’s lawsuit, filed in the Summit County Common Pleas Court, accuses Wolfe of violating Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act and seeks restitution for affected consumers and an end to the alleged violations.
