Jury Returns $6.4 Million Verdict in Mansfield Tyger Case

11/4/2014

(MANSFIELD, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that a Richland County jury has found Kendall Clemons guilty of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and ordered her to pay $6,412,500 in damages in connection with the misuse of bingo proceeds and theft from area charities.

The decision concludes a civil trial against Clemons and other former trustees of the Mansfield Tyger All Sports Booster Club.

“We thank the jury for their work in this case and we are pleased that they found clear and convincing evidence of illegal activity,” Attorney General DeWine said. “Kendall Clemons lied, stole, and cheated, taking advantage of the entire community. She deserves to be held accountable for her actions.”

Kendall Clemons, who is currently incarcerated on similar criminal charges, was found guilty of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, including:

  • Theft from charities
  • Receiving stolen property
  • Running an illegal gambling business
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Tampering with records
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Perjury

The Attorney General’s Office found that over the course of several years, Clemons and the other defendants pocketed bingo money intended for charities in violation of Ohio law.

Charities found to be harmed were Amvets #31, American Legion #16, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Museum, Raemelton Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Mansfield Tyger All Sports Booster Club, and Mansfield Tyger All Sports Scholarship Trust.

All money collected from Clemons, who was ordered to pay $6,412,500, and six other defendants, who collectively agreed to pay an additional $926,250 last week, will go to the charities.
