Attorney General DeWine Announces Statewide Drug Take Back Day Total

5/2/2012

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced that Ohioans disposed of several tons of outdated or unwanted prescription drugs during last weekend's National Drug Take Back Day.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office partnered with members of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and local and state law enforcement officers to collect the unneeded pills at dozens of drop off sites across the state on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

According to representatives with the DEA, those involved collected more than 13 tons (26,207 pounds) of prescription medications in Ohio alone.   Authorities will safely dispose of the pills.

National Drug Take Back Day is held twice a year in an effort to help citizens safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications.
