BCI Invites Public Comment During Accreditation Assessment

3/9/2020

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) will undergo a four-day, on-site evaluation to ensure compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies’ (CALEA) accreditation standards. A team of CALEA assessors will conduct an assessment at BCI beginning on March 23. The assessment includes a dedicated public call-in session and in-person hearing.

As part of the assessment, agency employees and the general public are invited to offer comments regarding BCI by telephone. The public can call 740-845-0979 from 2-4 p.m. on March 24. Phone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must directly address BCI’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. An overview of CALEA standards can be found on CALEA’s Website at www.calea.org.

There is also an opportunity for the public to take part in an in-person hearing with the assessors at BCI’s London facility, located at 1560 State Route 56 SW, London, Ohio 43140. The hearing will be held at 5 p.m. on March 24.

The CALEA assessment team is composed of public safety and law enforcement practitioners from agencies out of state. BCI was originally accredited by CALEA in 1998. All CALEA-accredited agencies are reassessed every four years.
