BCI Invites Public Comment During Accreditation Assessment

3/9/2016

(LONDON, Ohio) — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) will undergo a four-day, on-site evaluation to ensure compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies’ (CALEA) accreditation standards.

A team of CALEA assessors, composed of public safety and law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state agencies, will conduct an on-site assessment at BCI from March 21-24, 2016. This assessment includes a dedicated public call-in session and in-person hearing which will occur as detailed below.

In order to maintain its current accredited status, BCI must comply with 484 applicable professional standards. While on site, assessors will review agency policies and practices, interview personnel, and observe operations.

As part of the assessment, agency employees and the general public are invited to offer comments regarding BCI by telephone. The public may call (740) 845-0979 on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must directly address BCI’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. An overview of CALEA standards can be found on CALEA’s website at www.calea.org.

There will also be an opportunity for the public to take part in an in-person hearing with CALEA assessors on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. at BCI’s headquarters in London, Ohio, located at 1560 State Route 56 SW, London, Ohio 43140.

BCI originally became accredited through CALEA in 1998. All CALEA-accredited agencies are reassessed every three years.
