(MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced that agents with his Crimes Against Children (CAC) unit arrested a Mount Healthy man last night on allegations that he abused two young children who were in his care.
Agents arrested James "Randy" Brown, 23, on two charges of endangering children and two charges of felonious assault.
Mount Healthy Police requested the assistance of CAC unit, which is part of the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), after a woman sought medical care for her 11-month-old son Wednesday night. The boy was later found to have a skull fracture.
"This mother trusted her child with this man, who was a friend of her family," said Attorney General DeWine. "The safety of the children in this state has always been my top priority, and there is absolutely no good reason to ever harm a child."
Doctors at Cincinnati Children's Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children also examined a 3-month-old unrelated child who had been also been in the suspect's care and found that he had multiple rib fractures.
"After learning of these serious injuries, we made the decision to immediately contact BCI's Crimes Against Children unit to provide their expertise," said Mount Healthy Police Chief Marc Waldeck. "I know that protecting children is a high priority at the Attorney General's Office, just as it is for the Mount Healthy Police Department."
Brown is currently incarcerated at the Hamilton County Jail.
Attorney General DeWine created the Crimes Against Children unit after taking office in 2011.
