Gallia County Man Arrested in Connection with Sexual Assault of Juvenile

7/31/2014

(GALLIPOLIS, Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Gallia County Sheriff Joseph Browning announced today the arrest of a suspect accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile earlier this month.

Authorities took Chad Swain, 40, into custody this morning following questioning by agents with the Attorney General's Crimes Against Children (CAC) Unit.

Sheriff Browning requested the assistance of the CAC Unit after a complaint was made to his office alleging the rape of a juvenile female under the age of 13.

"Through the course of the investigation, we learned that this suspect was a close friend of the child's family who had the opportunity to be alone with the victim," said Attorney General DeWine.  "Those who prey on children are among the worst of the worst, and I'm pleased that teamwork between state and local law enforcement has led to this individual's arrest."

Swain is currently in custody at the Gallia County Jail.
