(COSHOCTON, Ohio)— State and local law enforcement announced today the formation of a special, multi-jurisdictional task force to investigate the murders of Doyle Chumney, 88, and Lillian Chumney, 79, of Strasburg, Ohio.
Mr. and Mrs. Chumney were abducted from their Tuscarawas County home sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning of this week. Yesterday, their burned vehicle was located in Bakersville, Ohio, in Coshocton County. Today, Coshocton County Coroner Dr. Robert Gwinn confirmed that the remains found in the vehicle are those of Mr. and Mrs. Chumney.
Due to the complexity of investigations of this nature, a multi-jurisdictional task force has been formed to jointly investigate the double homicide.
The task force is made up of investigators from the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Coshocton County Sheriff's Office, Strasburg Police Department, Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office, Coshocton County Prosecutor's Office, Tuscarawas County Prosecutor's Office, and the Coshocton County Coroner's Office.
