Attorney General Mike DeWine Sworn In for Second Term

1/11/2015

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Surrounded by family and friends in front of the Lincoln at Vicksburg Memorial in the historic Statehouse Rotunda, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine was sworn in today for a second term as Ohio's Attorney General.

He was given the oath by his eldest son, First District Court of Appeals Judge Pat DeWine, while his wife, Fran, held the family bible. Thomas M. Rose, Judge for the United States District Court of Southern Ohio, and DeWine's former law partner, also presided.

Attorney General DeWine gave remarks highlighting some of the accomplishments of his first term including: fighting against federal government overreach; taking action against public corruption; reducing the turn-around time for DNA evidence at the state's crime lab; creating a Crimes Against Children Unit to hunt down child predators; prosecuting scam artists who prey on the vulnerable; creating a Sexual Assault Kit testing initiative to test old rape kits and put rapists behind bars, and creating a Heroin Unit to fight back against drug cartels and drug dealers.

In his second term, DeWine promised to continue his mission of protecting Ohio families.

"We have so much more to do...We must continue to climb each of the hills that come before us and not rest in the satisfaction of our accomplishments," said DeWine.

Mike DeWine is the second Ohio Attorney General from Greene County. The first was John Little, who served two terms as Ohio Attorney General from 1873 to 1877. Little was also instrumental in the building of the Greene County Courthouse.
