Final Defendant in Telemarketing Fraud Scheme Sent to Prison

Attorney General Mike DeWine and Miami County Prosecutor Anthony E. Kendell announced today that Roger VanDoren III, the last of an 18-person telemarketing fraud enterprise, was sentenced to four years in prison by Miami County Common Pleas Judge Robert Lindeman. All the defendants pleaded guilty to felony charges arising out of an Ohio-based scam that stole millions of dollars from thousands of victims in 41 states.

Medical Phone Scam Reports on the Rise, Attorney General DeWine Warns

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today warned that more than 200 Ohioans have reported unsolicited phone calls offering medical alert devices this year. About 40 percent of those calls were reported last month alone. Consumers who respond to the calls risk losing money or jeopardizing their personal information.

BCI, OPOTA Receive Gold Standard Accreditation, Accreditation with Excellence Award

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) have both been reaccredited under the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies' (CALEA) new Gold Standard Assessment process.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today filed a lawsuit charging Utah-based Vision Security LLC with misleading Ohio consumers and failing to honor their cancellation requests.
