Attorney General DeWine Seeks Reimbursement from Autos Direct Online

4/12/2016

(CLEVELAND) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a lawsuit against Autos Direct Online for failing to deliver titles according to Ohio law.

The lawsuit seeks reimbursement to the Title Defect Rescission Fund and accuses Autos Direct Online and its owners Shawn R. Payne and Vincent Hugo of violating Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act.

“When we find violations of Ohio’s consumer protection laws, we have an obligation to act,” Attorney General DeWine said. “I encourage consumers to contact my office if they’ve had problems getting a title after buying a car from a dealership.”

Autos Direct Online operated at 4371 Pearl Road in Cleveland and sold used cars online to consumers in Ohio and across the country.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office received approximately 150 title complaints against Autos Direct Online, primarily from consumers who said they had problems receiving a certificate of title after buying a vehicle from the dealership.

The Attorney General’s Office helped consumers resolve complaints, in some cases by making payments from the Title Defect Rescission Fund, a program that helps reimburse consumers when a dealership fails to provide a title as required by law.

Consumers who have title problems or other consumer complaints should contact the Ohio Attorney General’s Office at www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov or 800-282-0515.
