(GEORGETOWN, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that a Brown County grand jury has indicted the former mayor of the village of Aberdeen on six charges connected to a voter intimidation investigation.
Garland Renchen, who served as mayor from 2007 to 2011, is now charged with one count of felony bribery and five misdemeanor charges of interfering with civil rights.
A joint investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Brown County Prosecutor's Office, and Brown County Board of Elections alleges that Renchen, who was running for a village council seat in November 2011, bribed an absentee voter.
He is also accused of violating the rights of five other voters by allegedly interfering with their ability to vote confidentially.
Renchen did not win the village council election.
