CPT credit

Accruing CPT hours

Did you know that completing VR episodes and corresponding debriefs qualifies you for continuing professional training (CPT) credits?

For 2025, all law enforcement officers in Ohio must take a minimum of 24 hours of CPT (but are encouraged to take more). Eight of those hours are required in four categories: Use of Force, Ethics Laws, Legal Updates, and Search & Seizure. The remaining 16 hours can focus on these same mandated topics OR any combination of these categories: Officer Trauma & Wellness, Domestic Violence, Vehicle Dynamics, Report Writing, Leadership.

Watching one episode in a VR series and its accompanying debrief is good for 1 hour of “General” (or “Elective”) CPT credit.  Additional debriefs (focused on one of the non-mandated CPT topic areas) are available for each VR episode in OPOTA Online. Additional CPT course information can be found on the 2025 Continuing Professional Training  page.
