Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy

Earlier this year the Attorney General’s Advisory Group on Unmanned Aircraft Systems issued a report that includes a model law enforcement policy and training recommendations to assist departments in the use of unmanned aircrafts, commonly called drones.

Many Ohio communities have growing populations from Middle Eastern countries or with ties to Middle Eastern culture. This course will educate officers on cultural norms and dispel common myths and misconceptions. In addition, participants will learn more about Islam, the religious practice of many people from Middle Eastern nations.

Training focused on use-of-force scenarios can help officers be more confident to control high-stress situations as they arise. Mobile Subject Control is a free, four-hour course that builds on lessons taught in last year’s Practical Application of Force course.

Each year driving accidents are among the leading causes of death for police officers killed in the line of duty. In addition, technology changes in police vehicles mean it is imperative that officers receive training to stay current. 

Many victims of crime are unaware of resources available to assist them. This one-day course, Crime Victims’ Rights and Responsibilities, will provide officers with information about the rights and responsibilities of crime victims and officers.
