Annual Conference of Public College and University Attorneys

The Annual Conference of Public College and University Attorneys is held each spring in Columbus for campus counsel, special counsel and assistant attorneys general who advise and represent Ohio’s public universities and community and technical colleges. The conference provides a forum to present and discuss legal issues that affect Ohio’s institutions of higher education. Topics include Ohio’s sunshine laws, state contracts, intellectual property, employment, student privacy laws, student discipline and trustee governance. In House Training for Public Colleges and Universities

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office offers training for college trustees, administrators, faculty and staff at individual campuses. Attorneys may address a wide range of topics including board governance, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), public records and classroom disruption.

Institutions should contact their assigned Assistant Attorney General directly or the Education Section at 614-644-7250 to schedule a training and discuss their particular training needs.

Legal Seminars for Public Colleges and Universities

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office periodically provides seminars for two-year college trustees and administrators on subjects of particular interest to two-year colleges. Seminar topics may be general in nature or address specific laws that affect an entire campus, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), campus safety or Ohio’s open records and open meetings laws. Seminars may also be targeted to a certain group of administrators and address a topic in more depth, such as construction or employment issues.

For more information about seminars, please contact the Education Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office at 614-644-7250.

Ohio Attorney General's Public Service Mock Trial Competition

Attorney General hosts Ohio’s Public Service Mock Trial Competition annually for law students interested in public service careers.

Law schools from across Ohio field teams and a case problem is released early September.  The teams present each side of the case in two separate rounds.  Federal and State Judges as well as experienced litigators dedicated to public service judge the competition.

At its heart, this Mock Trial Competition is designed to further careers in public service by matching the law school teams with public service litigators who serve as their coaches.  Assistant Attorneys General from the statewide offices of the Ohio Attorney General provide the core of the coaches, and litigators from other public service offices assist as well.

If you are a law student interested in public sector employment, we encourage you to participate in this fantastic program!  Please email for more information.
