Attorney General DeWine Urges Ohioans to Check Computers for Possible Infection from International Fraud Scheme

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- Attorney General Mike DeWine today warned Ohioans that if their computers are infected with a certain kind of malware, they may not be able to connect to the Internet as of July 9, 2012. Temporary servers, set up to give those with computers infected in an international "click-fraud" scheme time to repair their systems, are scheduled to be turned off on Monday.

"These servers have been running for several months but are set to shut down soon," said Attorney General DeWine. "Please check your computer to see if you were affected by this international scam."

Attorney General DeWine Urges FTC to Limit Alcohol Servings in Four Loko Settlement

Attorney General Mike DeWine and 34 other Attorneys General, along with the San Francisco City Attorney, have filed comments responding to the Federal Trade Commission's proposed settlement with Phusion Projects, LLC regarding its deceptive marketing of the flavored malt beverage "Four Loko" in super-sized 12 percent alcohol/23.5-ounce cans.

Attorney General DeWine Urges All Schools to Submit Safety Plans

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today at the 2012 Ohio Safe Schools Summit called on all schools to meet the state law requirement that directs them to file a copy of both floor plans and safety plans with the Attorney General's Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

"The great majority of Ohio schools have filed their plans with us, but for more than 150 school buildings we have not received anything," said Attorney General DeWine. "We hope that we will never experience school violence and we must do all we can to prevent it. Having these plans in place and ready to be accessed by local law enforcement is an important part of our efforts to protect children."

Attorney General DeWine Upholds Ohio Law on Brine Disposal

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has determined that certain permits governing treatment and disposal of brine from oil and gas wells, issued in Trumbull County by the former Director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, were not issued legally.

Attorney General DeWine to Appeal Lorraine Decision to U.S. Supreme Court

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said today that he and Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich have agreed to ask the United States Supreme Court to reverse a decision by lower federal courts indefinitely postponing the execution of convicted murderer Charles Lorraine. Lorraine was sentenced to death in 1986 for the brutal killings of Doris and Raymond Montgomery in their Warren, Ohio home. Lorraine will not be executed on Wednesday as originally scheduled, but Ohio will request that the indefinite stay of execution be lifted.

Attorney General DeWine Testifies for Tougher Cyber Crime Laws

On November 16, 2011, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine testified before committees of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate on companion bills calling for the adoption of tougher laws dealing with cyber fraud that would give the Attorney General's Office authority to investigate cyber fraud crimes and prepare cases for local prosecution.
