Attorney General DeWine Announces Agreement with Ohio AMVETS Groups Following Charitable Investigation

Today Attorney General Mike DeWine announced he has reached an agreement with AMVETS Department of Ohio, AMVETS Career Center and AMVETS Department of Ohio Service Foundation to protect charitable assets raised by those organizations for unemployed veterans and other veteran’s services. The agreement follows an investigation by the Attorney General that uncovered the misappropriation of millions in charitable funds held by the three AMVETS organizations for the benefit of unemployed veterans, veterans in need of career training, ROTC programs, veterans scholarships, veterans hospitals and homeless veterans. The agreement was filed with the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.

Attorney General DeWine Seeks Consumer Restitution from Chillicothe Pole Barn Business

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a lawsuit against MidOhio Buildings, Inc., doing business as Mustang Buildings Corporation, and its owner Mark Reese. The lawsuit charges the Chillicothe pole barn business with violations of Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act. DeWine is seeking consumer restitution, civil penalties, and injunctive relief.

BCI Invites Public Comment During Accreditation Assessment

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) will undergo a four-day, on-site evaluation to ensure compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies' (CALEA) accreditation standards. A team of CALEA assessors will conduct an on-site assessment at BCI from April 9-12, 2013. This assessment includes a dedicated public call-in session.

Attorney General Announces New Efforts to Help Sexual Assault Victims

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced details of a plan to address existing gaps in sexual assault services across Ohio.

The formation of the new Sexual Assault Services Expansion Program comes after a survey conducted by the Attorney General's Office found that 59% of Ohio's counties do not have comprehensive, direct sexual assault services.

DeWine Seeks Consumer Restitution from Two Central Ohio Home Improvement Businesses

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Attorney General Mike DeWine sought restitution for consumers harmed by two Central Ohio home improvement companies in lawsuits filed today against Bee Improvements LLC, of Columbus, and Cost Saver Home Improvements LLC, of Hilliard.

"Consumers naturally and legally have the expectation that when they hand over their hard-earned dollars for a product or service, they are going to get what they paid for," said Attorney General DeWine. "We will continue to watch out for consumers and protect Ohio's families."

Attorney General DeWine, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor McGinty Announce Rape Indictments

Attorney General Mike DeWine and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty today announced the first two criminal indictments filed as a result of increased efforts to examine the state's untested rape kits for DNA evidence.
