UPDATE: The Ohio Attorney General Information Technology Services, Windows XP Announcement

9/11/2014

Effective April 8, 2014 Microsoft stopped delivering software updates, providing technical assistance and support for Windows XP (XP) and Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).  As a result, XP and IE8 will still work on devices, but moving forward the continued use of XP and/or IE8 exposes your device to security risks, threats, vulnerabilities and viruses.   Additionally,  as software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize and leverage more current versions of Windows Operating Systems (OS) and IE, users will begin to experience that more and more applications and devices simply don’t function properly or fail entirely.

The AGO is required to meet very specific security standards, technical policies and perhaps most importantly ensure the integrity of our data.  Therefore, computers running Windows XP and/or IE8 must be upgraded to vendor supported OS and Internet Browsers as soon as reasonably possible.  Beginning November 15th, 2014, devices not using supported OS and/or web browsers will be denied access to: AGO websites, Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG), file transfer services, data sharing processes, Live Scan devices, etc.   You may need to purchase a computer with Windows 7 operation system and above in order to access the AGO systems.  Contact your local computer support to find out what you may need to do for this situation.  Microsoft has an all-inclusive webpage with videos, tutorials and step by step instructions for upgrading a personal computer from Windows XP to Windows 7.  The webpage has links to explain running Windows XP programs in Windows 7 using the compatibility feature.  That site is: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7#T1=tab01.

As always, your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
