Attorney General DeWine Announces Indictment of Hardin County Man for Sexual Assaults of Three Adults, One Child

4/17/2015

(KENTON, Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today the indictment of a Hardin County man on charges alleging that he sexually assaulted one child and three adults, two of whom have developmental disabilities, between 1995 and 2014.

Following an investigation by the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), a Hardin County Grand Jury this week indicted Donald Castle, 47, of Kenton, on seven counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition.

The case is being prosecuted by attorneys with Attorney General DeWine's Special Prosecutions Section.

BCI agents began investigating Castle, who was previously a Hardin County Municipal Court probation officer,  last year after obtaining information that the defendant allegedly raped an adult while the victim was unconscious.

"During the course of the investigation, agents uncovered evidence leading them to three others, including a child and two adults, who are also believed to have been sexually assaulted by the defendant," said Attorney General DeWine.  "We believe the evidence in this case shows that the suspect specifically targeted individuals who were vulnerable and unable to defend themselves."

None of the victims are associated with the defendant's prior work as a probation officer, however one of the alleged adult victims was a tenant at a now-closed group home where Castle previously volunteered.

Castle was arrested by the Hardin County Sheriff's Office last night.

Authorities with the Toledo Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation.
